Privacy

This page is short because the site does very little. There is no analytics, no advertising, and nothing that follows you from page to page. Most of what a privacy policy normally has to confess does not happen here.

What the site itself collects

No cookies are set by this site. Nothing is stored in your browser, and there is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

The pages are served from Cloudflare's network, which keeps standard server logs — IP address, the page requested, time, browser string — for a short period, to deliver the site and to defend it against abuse. That is the legitimate interest basis under Article 6(1)(f). We do not read those logs to build a picture of any individual and could not do so usefully.

What happens when you follow a link to a booking site

Some links here are affiliate links, explained in full inhow we make money. When you follow one, the company at the other end — Booking.com, for example — sets its own cookie so it can tell that you arrived from us and pay a commission if you book.

That cookie is theirs, not ours, set on their site under their privacy policy, and we never see who you are. What we receive later is a count: how many bookings came from a given page of this site. There is no name, no email and no address in it.

The identifier we attach to a link records which page and which position on it you clicked — for examplewhere-to-stay_comparison-table. It says nothing about you.

If you email us

We keep the correspondence so we can answer it and, where you have told us something is wrong on the site, so we can record what was checked and when. Corrections may be credited by first name, and only if you agree to it.

What we do not do

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask for a copy of any personal data we hold, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, or complain to your national supervisory authority. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold about you is an email you sent us.

Write to info@pilgrimcompass.com and we will answer within a month.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will say so on this page with the date, in the same way we date every other fact on this site.
