Map of Medjugorje, with walking times

Every walking time here was timed on foot from the west door of St James on a named date, and every coordinate was read on the phone standing at the place itself. Competitors publish a static image or embed someone else's map; none of them publishes how long it takes to walk there, which is the only number a pilgrim actually plans around.

Most maps of this village are a photograph of a map, or somebody else’s map in a box that needs a connection to load. Neither tells you the one thing you want to know standing outside the church with an afternoon to spend: how long does it take to walk there.

Every time below was walked. Not estimated from a map, not measured in a straight line — walked, door to door, at the pace an ordinary pilgrim walks, and dated.

How to read it

Everything is measured from the west door of St James, because that is where everybody starts. The dashed rings are drawn at the scale bar’s distance, so you can read “how far is that, really” straight off the drawing.

Shapes rather than colours mark the categories — a diamond for a prayer site, a triangle for transport, a square for parking and beds, a circle for the rest. That is deliberate: the map has to survive being printed in black and white and read by somebody who is colour-blind.

After dark

Every route on this map is lit the whole way after dark — except the climb up Križevac, which is dark from the start of the climb to the top. Marko Jurić walked them all again on 23 September 2026, setting out after the last usable light: the streets round the church, the bus station, the Risen Christ, the feet of both hills, Apparition Hill up and down its far side, and Križevac to the summit. Each place in the list above says so, with the date.

On Križevac the cross at the top is lit, which is what you see from the village. The path up to it is not. Plan to be down before dark; the Cross Mountain page works out when to start.

What it does not tell you yet

It is not complete. These are the places one person reached in one morning. The pansions, the rest of the shops and the smaller prayer sites are missing, and they will arrive the same way these did.
